ODIN
The best way to be sure that our important data is safe is to create a backup of the partition where Windows is located and, although it can seem to be a bit difficult, we can assure that it's very easy if use an application such as ODIN.
This lite application can save an image of the partition of the disc you choose. The configuration settings allow you to modify the behaviour of the program, for example you can choose to save only the used blocks or all of them, choose the compression format (GZip or BZip2) or if the image will be only one file or if it will be divided into parts of certain MBs.
When you'll want to restore the image of the disc you'll only have to press the restore button and choose the folder where the file is located.
